To achieve its objectives, AQUA-FAANG is organised within nine work packages. The research driven WPs (WP1-6) are integrated across all included fish species, ensuring knowledge advances will be rapidly transferred from species to species and partner to partner. All research-driven WPs will provide input to WP7, which focuses on dissemination, exploitation and communication. Finally, one WP is dedicated to project management (WP8), to enable communication within the consortium and ensure that the project is progressing according to plan.
WP1 - Functional annotation assays (NMBU)
The overarching aim of WP1 is to develop standardized functional annotation approaches and implement them to generate functional annotation maps for Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout, common carp, European seabass, gilthead seabream and turbot, representing healthy (unperturbed/control) status for a range of life-stages and tissues. Read more. WP2 - Bioinformatics and data analysis (EMBL-EBI)
WP2 aims to establish and coordinate standardized bioinformatics tools and data processing to identify and characterize functional genome elements in the six selected AQUA-FAANG species. Read more. WP3 - Genomic basis of immune phenotypes (WUR)
The overarching aim of WP3 is to enhance our fundamental understanding of the genomic basis for innate immune function in farmed fishes by generating standardized ImmunoMaps in the six selected AQUA-FAANG species. Read more. WP4 - Novel approaches to reveal disease resistance (INRAE)
The overall objectives of WP4 is to establish new ways to interrogate the genomic and phenotypic basis for disease resistance in fishes. Read more. WP5 - Exploiting genome functional annotation to enhance fish breeding (UEDIN)
The overarching aim of WP5 is to understand functional mechanisms underpinning host resistance to infectious disease, and to enhance accuracy of genomic prediction of disease resistance by harnessing functional annotation data. Read more. WP6 - Comparative analyses (UEDIN)
The overarching objective of WP6 is to exploit comparative approaches to enhance the quality, description and impact of functional annotation maps generated during the AQUA-FAANG project, beyond what is possible by analysis of single species. Read more. WP7 - Dissemination, exploitation and communication (EFFAB)
The overarching aim of WP7 is to disseminate and exchange knowledge generated by AQUA-FAANG to ensure the project’s goals, progress, and outcomes have a broad impact at the highest possible international levels. Read more. WP8 - Management and coordination (NMBU)
The overall aim of WP8 is to ensure efficient and transparent management and project coordination according to the AQUA-FAANG project plan and European Commission guidelines and regulations. Read more. WP9 - Ethics Requirements (NMBU) This work package sets out the 'ethics requirements' that the project must comply with. |
